The Hex Editor.
The hex editor is accessed by pressing the "Edit Terrain" button from
the Map Editor. The Hex Editor allows you to define the art work which you
will use to make up the individual hexes on the map. A default library of
images is loaded, with a wide variety of basic terrain types to choose
from. This is mainly to be used as an example, and may be edited as
desired. The current hex loaded in the editor will be the same as the
selected hex image in the map editor.
At the bottom right of the screen is the color palette. Foreground
colors are selected with the left mouse button, and background colors with
the right mouse button. The selected colors are shown immediately to the
left of the palette. The left and right mouse buttons will then be able to
place their respective colors on the unit image. Color zero appears as a
white, but when this color is used, it will be invisible on the play field.
This is very useful for images which are to be used in the overlay layer.
The main hex image is shown as a blow up, and may be edited as desired.
Above and to the right of this image is the actual size of the hex being
edited, so a true perception of the artwork may be seen.
The "Fill color" button will paint over the image completely in the
selected color. Left and right buttons will paint the foreground/background
color, respectively, when used with this function.
The "Border" button will draw a border around the edge of the hex in the
selected color. Left and right buttons will paint the
foreground/background color, respectively, when used with this function.
The "Checker" button will paint every other pixel the foreground or
background color. This can be used to create shades of color beyond those
of the basic palette. Left and right buttons will paint the
foreground/ background color, respectively, when used with this function.
The "Reverse F/B" button will replace the foreground color with the
background color and vice-versa in the image.
The "Copy" button copies the current image to the buffer. The buffer is
shown below and right of the magnified image.
The "Paste" button copies the contents of the copy buffer over the
current image.
The "Previous" and "Next" button groups allow the user to thumb through
the available images.
The "Go To Map Editor" button will return the user to the Map Editor,
saving any image changes that have been made.
